I grew up in rural Powhatan running through the woods. No literally, I did that for fun as a kid. My heart has always found peace in the wilds of the outdoors. From the hilly mixed marshes and hardwoods of Powhatan, to the Blueridge Mountains, all the way to the coast I love it all.

My life long passion in the outdoors lead me down many paths including wilderness survival, bushcraft, conservation, forest management, and of course Photography.
How can one spend time in the great outdoors and not see how profoundly of a beautiful world we live in? I wanted to capture it. I wanted to capture what I could see in these beautiful places and to share that with the world. But I learned something from this adventure.

We live in such a fast paced world surrounded by technology that’s rapidly advancing and the world moves faster and faster but time? No, time moves at its own pace, and I think that to truly appreciate this world we live in. The outdoors, our families, our friends, our pets, those small moments in life, we must slow down and observe the moment around us. Time is ever moving forward, whether we are ready for it or not. We watch everything and everyone around us change with time. Be it our kids, our families, or the landscape around us. As I look to the stars from my home in Powhatan and see a orange glow on the horizon that didn’t used to be there.

To capture a photo, is to pause time the way it is. But to capture a photo that tells a story about that moment in time, is a truly profound artistic skill. Be us a Painter, a Writer, a Photographer, or a Musician.
And for me, it makes it all the better when I can connect with the natural world around me through outdoor skills.

Imagine if you could pause time. I think that’s what a photo is.
